Sometimes those ball cradles take a lot of abuse when players drop them down abruptly. One easy trick to avoid too much damage to the cradle is to tie a knot in the rope such that the knot jams in the pulley right before the cradle slams onto the lumber below. We also recommend adding a shock absorbing bumper to the cradle catch at the base.
